Twitter’s monthly active users were on the decline for three consecutive quarters. They saw the opportunity to create their platform in a physical space and facilitate real-life conservation and entertainment. They also wanted to show their key advertisers and marketers the importance of audience through actually having audience members at this real-life Twitter platform.
Solution
Twitter Beach debuted at Cannes Lions as space, “open to attendees that featured a variety of programming, interactive stations, and photo ops; and an invite-only terrace space designed for Twitter to hold meetings with key advertisers, marketing partners, and content partners.”1
Activation Breakdown

Takeaway
This activation was about recreating the platform in real life, showcasing the appeal. Twitter is a place of community, content and entertainment. There isn’t a better way to double down in showing this than by recreating it as a physical space for people to escape to during Cannes Lions. While this helps show users Twitter’s appeal, this activation was also a great way to show advertisers and marketers the platform’s appeal and value. By having a beach filled with people who are living out Twitter in real life, advertisers can see the appeal and be reminded that what they do starts with those people.
